Jerdon Construction Services completed this project with a few unexpected challenges while constructing an updated café within an existing historical building.  This project had tight deadlines to be met, and we had to coordinate with the bookshop staff to ensure minimal disruption while we built the temporary wall. We took special care to preserve the building’s character due to its age.

Project Highlights

  • Historical Structure with some missing structural supports. An engineer was consulted to assess repair needs.
  • A sinkhole was discovered during construction and an engineer was brought in to evaluate and advise for repair. 30' rods were installed along with flowable fill to remediate the sink hole.
  • An abandoned oil tank was discovered in the sidewalk and had to be removed. Fire Dept was on stand by during the removal and soil engineer was brought in to assess if there was any contamination of soil.
  • Extensive framing and drywall needed to create proper fire separation.
  • Large mechanical platform was constructed
  • Large fire rated chase needed from mechanical platform and extending to roof.
  • Full sprinkler system was installed along PIV valve in sidewalk.
